SIMPLY SWEET OR SIMPLY OUTSTANDING?!!!

SIMPLY SWEET

OR SIMPLY

OUTSTANDING???!!!!!

It was the summer of 2013 and my sister's mother in-law was visiting. She told me about a Cupcake Wars winner not toooooo far away from me. I had not watched the show in a while and had NO idea. I was very excited and knew I had to get there!!! We don't live close by, so I did not know when I could make the trip.

However, on our 5th anniversary, we we driving home from a  day at the beach and I asked my husband to stop at "Simply Sweet" so that I could check them out. I only had intentions of buying one for each of us, but of of course, I came back to the car with four. I told him that it was our anniversary dessert!

Caramel Apple

This was the day that I discovered their Caramel Apple with the cream cheesing frosting.  It is an apple cupcake with a bit of caramel inside, cream cheese frosting, and a dollop of caramel on top. My husband and I both LOVE this cupcake - in fact, this goes on my best of list!!!  It is one of the best cupcakes I have ever had!

I also bought a Butter Pecan that day and loved it beyond imagination. The other two were a Death By Chocolate for my husband and then, a cannoli one. I am not wild about cannoli unless it is the real thing, but I thought my husband would want it....instead, he wanted to try the caramel apple and we ended up splitting both. I will not make that mistake again! :) It's not that the cannoli was not good, it's just that the caramel apple is so amazingly delicious to me, that it's not one I want to share!

Ambrosia - looks soooo good!

I still regret not trying an Ambrosia that day, and their summer flavors are done now - but I have something to look forward to in 2014 :)

Anyway, I told my mother about this place and she stopped there on her way to visit me.  She brought with her a Chocolate Raspberry (really incredible  raspberry frosting),

Salted Caramel,
and.......

a Strawberry Bananna (that was chocolate cake with strawberry inside and sparkly banana icing - very unique for a cupcake).

Since my mother and I both had excellent experiences with their employees - everyone was just so nice there - and, we loved the cupcakes, I decided to friend them on Facebook so that I could get updates.

Well, one day I saw a posting about a new flavor - Vanilla Guava!  It is a vanilla cupcake with guava inside, cream cheese frosting, and a dollop of shiny guava on top.  I just had to try it!  A friend of mine then came down for a visit and we made a special trip there - on a Monday - only to find it closed!!!  Note to readers, they are closed on Sundays and Mondays!

Vanilla Guava

I finally went though! It was the end of August and I said, "I have to get down there - they will be ending their summer flavors!" I was so glad I went because not only was this nothing short of scrumptious, I got to meet the fabulous owners.  I had very recently seen the episode of Cupcake Wars in which they won and had so much fun talking to them about it.

My husband I were visiting friends that day and I left with:  Peanut Butter and Jelly, Caramel Apple, Vanilla, Vanilla Guava, and Butter Pecan.  I gave one to a friend of ours to do a taste test comparison with another place that had won Cupcake Wars (he wanted to compare the Salted Caramel) - well, the next day he sent me an email to let me know that "Simply Sweet's" was better......

and there you have it - my first reviewer comment not from a family member!  This is what I was hoping to do with my blog - to spread the word and support local businesses via writing about my love of cupcakes.

"Simply Sweet's" are truly works of art as well. The decor on each of them is always creative and beautiful. I love shiny / sparkly and they do an amazing job with that.

If you have any experiences with cupcakes that you think others would benefit from, please share :) I would travel to every cupcake shop in the world, but I assume that really can't happen :) This blog will be made better by YOU!
